Lost Coast Backpacking

The Lost Coast, King Range National Conservation Area
October 15th-18th, Ages 12-17
Our Fall 2020 Lost Coast Backpacking program will take place on the Northern Section of the Lost Coast Trail of California. The three-night backpacking trip will span approximately 25 miles from the Mattole Beach Trailhead to the Black Sands Beach near Shelter Cove. This hike provides a unique opportunity to explore parts of coastal California that can only be reached on foot. The rugged terrain and necessity to plan your trip around the tides make this a challenging and amazing hike. The primary focus of the Lost Coast Backpacking Program will be on gaining wilderness skills and engaging in life-long physical activity. Participants will gain experience in route planning and preparation, backcountry cooking, and tarp setting. While out on the trail, participants will also be able to learn about marine ecology and explore coastal ecosystems.
