FIELDGUIDES INC. was founded in 1983 by Jessie and James Camp. Together, with a board of directors, they manage the non-profit administratively and directly on-site. The fieldguides are the heart and soul of our program. They orchestrate the experience from breakfast until bedtime, sharing their outdoor living skills, natural history knowledge, campfire talents, group management and teaching techniques, sense of humor, and contagious enthusiasm for camping with kids. Our student to fieldguide ratio averages 10:1.
Jessie Camp has been leading outdoor education programs since graduating from Stanford University in 1980. She is a certified teacher with a Masters Degree and an endorsement in ESL, and has worked extensively in the public school system. Jessie is a professional skier and a backpacking guide, and she adds music to the program every chance she gets.
James Camp is an outdoorsman who has worked in the field of environmental education for over 45 years as a wilderness guide, interpreter, and administrative manager. An entrepreneur dedicated to pleasing his clients, James loves to lead stargazing and tell adventurous campfire stories to the students.
